September is Bee Aware Month at Arataki – Expert Sessions and Films

Arataki Visitor Centre is hosting  a series of events, information sessions and films about bees and beekeeping @ Arataki Visitor Center.  Well worth a visit, and don’t forget to support Oratia’s local honey at the honesty box on Parker Rd.

  • Sunday 7 September, 2pm-3.30pm – Vanishing of the Bees (film)
  • Sunday 14 September, 2pm-3.30pm – Queen of the Sun: What are the Bees Telling Us? (film)
  • Sunday 21 September, 2pm-3.30pm – More than Honey (film)
  • Sunday 28 September, 2pm-3.30pm – Tales from the Hive (film)

Expert sessions

Over three sessions, experts will talk about the very real issues facing our bees:

    • Tales From Our Hives – Saturday 6 September, 3pm-4pm – Join the beekeepers from Earthbound Honey and the Town Hall Apiary as they talk about Urban vs Rural beekeeping.
    • Bees and Conservation – Sunday 14 September, 1pm-2pm – Experts from the Auckland Beekeepers’ Club will focus on pollination and creating a healthy environment for our bees through education and conservation. Take home your own bee-friendly native plant and see a live hive.
    • Backyard Beekeeping for All – Sunday 28 September, noon-1pm – Meet the team from Beezthings and their bees. learn about setting up your own hives, and talk about bee-friendly projects around Auckland.
