At the Waitakere Ranges Local Board December  Meeting, Secretary, Penny Sparks , spoke on behalf of the Oratia Ratepayers & Residents requesting Gateway Signage for Oratia.

At last years AGM the Oratia R&R highlighted the lack of visual identity for Oratia village.  The town’s main sign used to be the signwriting on the Oratia Settlers Hall but this is now gone.   Members expressed a desire at the AGM for  Gateway signage to strengthen our village’s identity, which would also promote traffic calming.   Some fabulous examples exist at Huia, Henderson Valley, Titirangi.    Signage is also a  traditional part of the visual identity of a fruit growing community.

The work on the Oratia Village Masterplan is now complete  after a lot of considered work from the community, the council , and the design team (Isthmus Group).  The plan sugested both the  placement and  a design direction for the signs and the community feedback was favourable.

So let’s get started!  While the rest of the plan is going through a longer process, we requested permission to get rolling on the signs.

Below is the letter tabled with  the  Waitakere Ranges Local board, a link to the Local Board Minutes and the excerpt from the Oratia Village Masterplan.
