School Holidays – What’s Local

Local holiday activities for  Oratia and West Auckland  Youth.  If you know of any others, feel free to send them in or post in comments.

  2. Library Programmes: Glen Eden and Titirangi include: Makerspace Day, Stop Motion Movies, Gaming Day, Makey-Makey Spheros, Buzzing Robot Bug Workshop, 3-d Doodler Workshop, FAbulous Favourites and Squish Circuits.

  4. MPHS Trust: Gamers Guild – local MPHS is based at Hub West in Corbans AVe Henderson – 3 day Workshop in Gaming and Broadcasting
  5. MPHS Trust: Hack Your Hood 16-25 12 week free programme connecting youth with employment and training in Creative industries
  6. Oratia United Football Holiday Programme
  7. Titirangi Community House: Claymation, Cartooning, French Lessons  for Kids, as well as a school holiday programme.  They also host adult clubs like Pottery and Art.
  8. Corbans Estate: We’ve got 13 children’s holiday classes coming up at the end of the month, from pottery, painting and cartooning to classes inspired by our favourite storybooks.

Pixel Floors Plus – Draw your own game
Monday 28 September, 10am – 12 noon
Draw your own video game – no coding required. Become creator, publisher and player of your own game and share it with the world. Recommended for children 8+.

Game making – Scratch Gaming
Wednesday 30 September, 10am – 12 noon
Come along and learn coding with Scratch Gaming. Own laptop required and this activity is suitable for 8+ years old.

Robots storytime and craft
Thursday 1 October, 10.30am – 11.30am
Join us for our special holiday story time about robots and make your very own robot to take home.

3D pendant making
Friday 2 October, 10am – 12 noon
Come and try out our new 3Doodler pens and make yourself either a pendant or key holder. This acitvity is suitable for children 7+ years old.

Makey makey and Spheros
Monday 5 October, 10am – 12 noon
Have some fun and play the piano with a banana, bongos on playdoh and much more. Discover the Sphero’s abilities and design a maze to navigate it through. This activity is suitable for 8+ years old.

Stop-motion movies
Tuesday 6 October, 10am – 12 noon
Learn the basics of film and animation with Stop Motion Movies. Create, make and film your movie using tablets. This activity is suitable for children 6+.

Makerspace open day
Wednesday 7 October, 10am – 12 noon
Come in anytime between 10am and 12pm to have a go at Glen Eden Library’s Makerspace equipment. We have: Makey Makey, iPads, LittleBits Electronics, Sphero’s, 3Doodlers, Laptops and Android tablets and knitting equiptment. This activity is open for anyone to have a go and have some fun.

Gaming day
Friday 9 October, 2pm – 4pm
Celebrate the end of the school holidays by challenging your friends to a game. Younger children must be supervised.


Buzzing robot bug workshop
Tuesday 29 September, 10am – 11am
Ever wanted to make your own pet robot? In this workshop you will use a simple electric circuit to make a vibrating robot bug. You can have fun personalising your robot bug and then we will race them – may the best bug win! Suitable for 7 – 12 year olds. Spaces limited so be in quick! Kick off the holidays by making your very own stop-motion lego movie
Bring your own tablet or use ours. Suitable ages 8 – 11 years.

Make a 3D hologram projection pyramid
Tuesday 29 September, 11am – 12noon
Turn your smartphone or tablet into a 3D holographic video viewer. When paired with a special “hologram-ready” video, this device will create the illusion that you’re observing a floating 3D image.  Suitable ages 7 – 10 years.

Spring storytime and make your own spring flower
Thursday 1 October, 10.30am – 11.30am
Join Catherine in a Springtime Storytime Session and afterwards make your own spring flower. Suitable ages 2 – 6 years.
